How to Let Go of 'Missed Opportunities'

Kicking off 2024 with a favorite quote that I think might speak to you as well....

I N S P I R E

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today.” – Proverb

I know it sometimes feels like you're too late, like you've 'missed the boat' on doing something.

I feel this way about literally planting trees along my driveway

Oh, the irony!

"If only we would have done it when we first moved in"

Well... we didn't

But that doesn't mean it can't be done now.

What might change if you didn't put these random, self-created time parameters on everything.

You might:

  • Start college when you're 30, 40, 50, or 80

  • Sign up for the yoga class or the ice skating lessons

  • Decide that today you will add in a serving of veggies to your dinner

  • Make your first deposit in your brand new savings account $$

  • Download Babble and start learning French

  • Properly introduce yourself to your 'not so new' neighbor

  • Start advocating for yourself at work

  • Set a timer for 2 minutes and sit down in silence or to journal

  • Sign up for the class that will help you get your side hustle off the ground

  • Tell the kids, your parents, or the long lost friend from high school how much they mean to you

  • Set and communicate a new boundary with that family member who isn't respectful of your time

Try not to get caught up in the missed opportunities; instead focus on the shift to what is possible here and now.

Remember, you don't have to do anything.

You get to

Identify one single thing that you put off because you feel like it's too late to start.

Write it down.

Remind yourself that you get to choose your future.

Then take a single step toward it... today.
