When was the last time you felt truly rested?

Carolyn Frost

You know that moment when you finally sit down after a long day, reaching for the

TV remote, that 'one more' glass of wine, or mindlessly scrolling through your phone?

We call it rest.

But we wake up the next morning feeling just as depleted.

Here's how to address that disconnect between what we think rest is, and what our bodies and minds actually need 👇🏼

Here are the 7 types of rest we all need + immediately actionable steps to incorporate them into your life:

1.Physical Rest

Give your body the break it's been asking for.

When: You wake up exhausted despite a full night's sleep, or you're reaching for that 3rd cup of coffee before noon.

To Do:

👉🏼 Schedule non-negotiable sleep hours (aim for 7+)

👉🏼 Book that massage you've been "too busy" for

👉🏼 Take micro-movement breaks between meetings

2.Mental Rest

Release the constant analysis, planning, and problem-solving.

When: Your mind feels like a browser with too many tabs open, or you're re-writing emails in your head at 3 AM.

To Do:

👉🏼 Take 3 deep breaths before you enter any meeting

👉🏼 Brain dump everything onto paper before bed

👉🏼 Take actual lunch breaks away from your desk

3.Emotional Rest

Create space for authentic feelings.

When: You're putting on a brave face in meetings while feeling overwhelmed inside.

To Do:

👉🏼 Schedule regular check-ins with a coach, therapist, or mentor

👉🏼 Practice emotional acknowledgment without judgment

👉🏼 Create boundaries around emotional labor at work

4.Sensory Rest

Reduce the constant input bombardment.

When: Every notification feels like a personal attack, or your eyes hurt from staring at screens.

To Do:

👉🏼 Create "no phone" zones in your home

👉🏼 Take meetings while walking outside

👉🏼 Implement regular digital sunsets (all devices off at 9 pm)

Honor your need for solitude.

When: The thought of another "quick coffee catch-up" makes you want to hide.

To Do:

👉🏼 Block meeting-free days in your calendar

👉🏼 Practice saying "no" to non-essential commitments

👉🏼 Audit your social energy expenditure

6.Creative Rest

Rekindle your imagination and innovative thinking.

When: Your solutions feel stale, or you're stuck in "we've always done it this way" thinking.

To Do:

👉🏼 Change your environment (work from a new space)

👉🏼 Engage with art or nature regularly

👉🏼 Allow yourself to be a beginner at something new

7.Spiritual Rest

Connect with what gives your work meaning.

When: Success feels hollow, or you're questioning your impact.

To Do:

👉🏼 Start your day with reflection, not emails

👉🏼 Connect your daily tasks to your larger purpose

👉🏼 Create rituals that ground you

Remember, rest isn't a reward for finishing everything.

It's essential for showing up as your best self in all areas of life.

Always,

Carolyn
